DAWSONVILLE (September 10, 2010) – As autumn approaches, the North Georgia Mountains are gearing up for a busy fall season.  Our beautiful mountain communities play host to a variety of activities in the fall, from the Ellijay Apple Festival, Oktoberfest in Helen, Gold Rush Days in Dahlonega and of course my personal favorite, the Dawsonville Moonshine Festival.  These experiences are made all the more unique with Georgia’s touch of southern hospitality.  Our ability to make anyone and everyone feel welcome is a quality that can give our state a competitive edge in tourism.

DeKalb School Board Legislative Review Committee to Hold First Meeting at the Capitol

ATLANTA (September 8, 2010) – Sen. Emanuel Jones (D-Decatur) and Rep. Mary Margaret Oliver (D-Decatur) will co-chair the first meeting of the DeKalb School Board Legislative Review Committee at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 9 in Room 341 of the State Capitol.  The meeting will feature a presentation from State Superintendent of Schools Brad Bryant.  The media is invited to participate in a question and answer session after the presentations, and the public is encouraged to attend.

Senator Fort Participates in Education Panel

WHAT:           State Sen. Vincent Fort (D-Atlanta) will join Derrick Boazman, former Atlanta Public Schools Superintendant Jerome Harris, DeKalb County Board Member Eugene Walker and other community activist for the, “Are our schools failing our children or are our children failing our schools” panel tomorrow. Participants will discuss the Atlanta Public Schools CRCT cheating scandal, vouchers, community involvement and student achievement.
